Building Lasting Achievements Starting Today
BLAST
BLAST (Building Lasting Achievements Starting Today) is an afterschool program available every school day and open to every 6th-8th grade student in Rogers County. Will Rogers Junior High students are transported directly to the Claremore Community Center (2301 N Sioux Ave) via the Claremore Public Schools bus system following school.
BLAST students are provided a snack, study opportunity, and a safe wholesome place for camaraderie after school. The Claremore Community Center is a haven for youth who otherwise may not have a safe place to go following school. With its spacious facility loaded with a recreation room and full size gymnasium, youth are welcomed each day to unwind and have fun. Each school day from 3 PM – 6 PM the Claremore Community Center is closed to the general public to ensure child safety.
PROGRAM CURRICULUM
Each day of the week there is a theme directed at adding value to the lives of each and every BLAST youth.
Motivation Monday: Every Monday, BLAST students receive a 15-20 minute message on leadership, attitude, character, and choices. Brent Bilby delivers the curriculum from Leader In Me, based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (Copyright FranklinCovey Education).
Tutoring Tuesday: Every Tuesday, BLAST students have the opportunity to receive tutoring through our intern partnership with RSU.
Wellness Wednesday: Every Wednesday, BLAST students participate in an activity that promotes mental health. Mental health curriculum comes from RCYS Family and Child Therapist, Shelly Gonzalez. Shelly obtained her M.S in Counseling from John Brown University with an emphasis on children and youth.
Thankful Thursday: Every Thursday, BLAST students write three things they are thankful for on the whiteboard and write one thank you note to someone of their choosing. Gratefulness is one of the core values of the BLAST program.
Friends Friday: Every Friday, BLAST welcomes all middle schoolers in Rogers County to partake in an afternoon of fun at the community center sampling the BLAST program at no cost!
